Sigh yes, I admit I am fit for the “world’s laziest blogger” title and will not say a word to defend that. But today was kinda special so I thought I’d drag myself to type out a blog post.
MayG and UTP, the blog turned one today.. yayy :D in this one year I have gotten to know so many amazing people, so well that it seems we’ve been pals for years. This is a big thank you for all of you out there – you have made a huge difference!
I’ll share a little secret with you all today. If you read our posts and think our life is this smooth joyride because we seem “SO in-love” and “OH so made for each other” you gotta be kidding! Both of us have had the moments when we’ve slapped our forehead and muttered “DANG! I married the biggest mistake of my life!” …only to realise soon after that it would’ve been an even bigger mistake if we hadn’t!
It’s like every time we thank our stars thinking we made it past one huge bump still holding hands, there’s more turbulence waiting just around the corner… go figure!
Most of you must be familiar with Stephen Covey’s Emotional Bank Account theory. I was introduced to it in a personality training workshop. This is how it goes. The element of trust or comfort between two people in any mutual relationship can be considered as a bank account where everything that adds to the trust and happiness is a deposit while every act that negatively affects this comfort is a withdrawal from the emotional bank account.
If both the partners make an effort to maintain their bank balances in positive, those did-I-marry-the-biggest-mistake-of-my-life moments don’t have much room happen, do they?
Needless to say every smile, every kindness, every helping hand, every compliment are a deposit and every nagging, every name-calling and blaming the other are a withdrawal.
The interesting thing is if the emotional bank account is not struck with anything of the current-day recession trends, a withdrawal is tolerated well by the spouse. It’s really not fair to raise hell if the man is late from work for the first time in six weeks? But the husband whose balance is already somewhere in the negative is SO in for trouble if he ends up forgetting the wife’s birthday! Same goes for the wife who is planning to grumble and nag while the husband is watching a match on TV provided he has already *quite had it* with her ways!
So as a bloggiversary special I am putting together this little game in flash called “Happily Ever After?” A two-player couple game that will be available on the mayG and UTP blog. (and yes that question mark is not a typo ;D)
The game is kind of like snakes and ladders? Details later. But for now I want your help in suggesting things that would be a deposit and those that would be a withdrawal from the emotional bank account from a guy’s perspective and some from a girl’s perspective so that I add them to the game. If I put all the clauses myself you will end up knowing everything that goes on in the mayG UTP household and *ahem* that would really not be a good idea.. you don't want to know.. honest!

Happy blog anniv, you two! Will play the game later...just wanted to apologize for putting a spanner in the works re. Dubai trip. Was so looking forward to it too. Maybe it will happen later....at least I really hope and pray that it will :(
Congratulations on the anniversary!
Happy Maygic$Utopiac anniversary! :)
So...One year, eh? Keep up the good work!
Lots of wise words in this blog-post, BTW. Those concepts are applicable to all kinds of relationships, I suppose, and not just a marriage. Marriage does sound like being a lot more 'high-maintenance' though...
Congrats, mayG and UTP!
You folks have one of the coolest blogs I have come across so far!
Keep it up!
Hapy anniv you two ! Have sent you a message on FB, pls to see !

Congrats. You have got a nice header image and the change in facial expressions makes it lively and reflects daily life - however on the other hand kid remains expressionless. Consider changing the description to : Journey of three.
Happy blog anniversary. Whilst the theory is extremely plausible and a lot of folks can relate to it, I would not bind marriage and the relationship down to theories. What if a partner has been chronically ill for a long long time is grumpy and pumps up negativity, would that make the other (hopefully loving/caring/sincere) partner less likely to care. Feel free to disagree, just a thought.
Hi there, I wanted to let you know that I came across the Freedom of Speech badge on Sunayana Roy's space and liked it so much that I used it myself. I do hope you don't mind. Will attribute it to you. Thanks.
